Pre-match football in Morocco: the Atlas Lions, key competitions and markets
Football is played by two teams, each fielding no more than eleven players, one of whom must be the goalkeeper. More goals than the opponent means a win; equal tallies, 0-0 among them, mean a draw.
Rules quoted on this page come from The IFAB's Laws of the Game 2026/27, which took effect on 1 July 2026.
Atlas Lions: a 2026 quarter-final, then a World Cup on home soil

Morocco's national team, the Atlas Lions, reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. It was the first World Cup to bring in 48 teams for a total of 104 games; Canada, Mexico and the United States staged it, and Spain lifted the trophy.
Morocco knocked out the Netherlands in Monterrey to reach the last 16, where they beat Canada 3-0 in Houston. France ended the run with a 2-0 win in the quarter-final near Boston.
Before that World Cup, the country had hosted the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a 24-team tournament played between December 2025 and January 2026.
The 2030 World Cup will be partly staged in Morocco. On 11 December 2024 an Extraordinary FIFA Congress appointed Morocco, Portugal and Spain as its hosts; Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will each stage one of three centenary celebration matches.
How a pre-match market reads: 1X2, double chance and the clock
In a 1X2 market, a win for the team listed first in the fixture is the "1" (shown as W1 on the site), a draw is "X" and a win for the team listed second is the "2" (W2); that order holds even at a neutral venue.
A double-chance pick takes in two of the three results at once: "1X" means the first team wins or draws, "12" means either team wins, "2X" means a draw or a win for the second team.
Regular time is two halves of 45 minutes each, and the referee adds on, half by half, the time lost to substitutions, treatment of injured players, disciplinary sanctions, VAR checks, goal celebrations and the like: that is additional time. If the competition rules insist on a winner, a level match may continue into extra time (two periods of equal length, 15 minutes at most each), be settled by penalties, or both. The shoot-out comes after the match has ended and is not part of it.
Morocco's World Cup tie with the Netherlands used every step: 1-1 after extra time, then 3-2 to Morocco on penalties. Before backing a knockout match, settle whether your prediction concerns the score at the end of regular time, the result after extra time or the team that goes through.
Competitions in the line: Africa, Morocco, Europe
National teams: AFCON 2027 qualifying splits 48 nations into 12 groups of four, with Morocco in Group A alongside Gabon, Niger and Lesotho. Matchdays 3 and 4 fall between 9 and 17 November 2026, matchdays 5 and 6 between 22 and 30 March 2027, and Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will host the 24-team finals from 19 June to 17 July 2027. These games are listed among Africa Cup of Nations fixtures.
African clubs: CAF Champions League matches reach the group stage with 16 clubs that came through the second preliminary round. Six matchdays start on 27-29 November 2026 and end on 22-24 January 2027; quarter-finals follow in late February and early March, semi-finals in April and the final between 9 and 31 May 2027.
Morocco: Botola Pro Inwi keeps 16 clubs for 2026/27, as does Botola Pro 2 one level down. Top-flight games are grouped on the Botola betting page.
Europe: in UEFA Champions League markets, the league phase puts all 36 clubs in a single standings table, and every club plays eight different opponents, half of the games at home. The top eight qualify directly for the round of 16, while clubs finishing 9th to 24th go into knockout phase play-offs. That phase wraps up on 27 January 2027; the final is due on Saturday 5 June 2027 in Madrid, at the Estadio Metropolitano.
From the pre-match line to live play
On 1xBet, football can be bet on live (Live) as well as before the match (Line). Ahead of kick-off it sits alongside every other sport in the full pre-match sports menu.
A live bet concerns a match that has already started, and the end of each half follows set rules. Once the last minute of a half has been played, the fourth official displays how much additional time, at minimum, the referee will allow; that figure may go up but never down. If a penalty kick still has to be taken or retaken, the half runs on until the kick is completed. Matches in progress appear under football currently in play.

Football questions, answered
When does the referee award a penalty kick?
For an offence punishable by a direct free kick that a player commits inside their own penalty area, or off the field as part of play in the cases set out in Laws 12 and 13. The kick can go straight in for a goal.
How many teams from each AFCON 2027 qualifying group reach the finals?
The top two in each group, except in Groups D, H and L. Co-hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are already qualified from those groups, so only the highest-ranked team other than the host goes through from each of them.
